All aboard as we set sail under the natural beauty of the night sky. Some guests got more dressed for dinner but that was a matter of personal preference.Īs far as shoes, we only wore sneakers onboard. The vibe on Polaris was casual and cozy and we could easily have done with just a few pieces since we lived in jeans, leggings, tees and sweaters. Here’s where we brought too much with us. A few guests wore goggles outdoors but our regular everyday sunglasses were fine (and necessary). In Antarctica, we usually layered two pairs of Darn Tough Thermolite Edge inside our boots. We always wear compression socks on long flights and are still partial to Lily Trotters. We wore Rab Guide 2 GORE-TEX Glove and had the heated Seirus Heattouch Atlas Glove charged and ready to go but never needed them. It’s a pain dealing with them in your pockets. They were important while we were on the zodiacs, though, and I would advise attaching them to your jacket so they’re easier to take off and put on. We were concerned about our hands freezing but the temperatures were often in the 30s while we were there and we actually ended up taking off our gloves during landings. Our choices: Cotopaxi Wharf Beanie and Sportiqe Cimarron Beanie. On especially cold days, wearing a beanie under our hoods went a long way toward keeping us warm. My millennial lived in Ibex Woolies 2 Crew and Ibex Woolies 2 Bottoms, with back ups of Rab Syncrino Base LS Tee and Rab Conduit Tights.īeanies. The only reason these were secondary is because I’m partial to black and the darkest color those come in is Maritime. My back-ups were Cotopaxi Liso Baselayer Top and Cotopaxi Liso Baselayer Bottom. I loved my Icebreaker Merino 260 Tech Long Sleeve Crewe Thermal Top and Icebreaker Merino 260 Tech Thermal Leggings. We each brought two tops and two bottoms with us so we could switch off and wash them in between if we needed to (Viking provides free washers/dryers/detergent onboard) but, honestly, we would have been fine with one set apiece. Consider opting for merino wool – not cotton – because it keeps you warmer and dryer. These are what we wore under our two jackets and pants. We found it easier to take off our outerwear before returning to our stateroom.
